Job Description:
Our reputable, Non-Profit client is seeking a Controller to join
their organization. As part of the management team, the Controller
must have strong leadership, management, technology, analytical,
strategic planning, and communication skills. This may be the role
for you if you are an experienced Non-Profit Controller looking for
a challenging role at an established Non-Profit.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leading and executing month-end closure activities while
keeping the general ledger updated and accurate.
- Ensuring complete accuracy of general ledger data and
associated financial reports.
- Monitoring temporary cash needs to guarantee sufficient funds
for payroll and other expenses.
- Managing Contract Compliance and Vendor Management tasks.
- Reviewing significant estimate accounts such as bad debt
allowance, sales return, and refund accruals each month and
quarter-end.
- Assisting the CFO in preparing for monthly financial statement
reviews by providing year-over-year flux analysis.
- Generating precise monthly and ad-hoc financial reports that
are user-friendly.
- Leading and developing the accounting team at the Association
Office.
- Creating or reviewing GL account analysis and reconciliations
for various accounts.
- Guaranteeing timely reconciliations and managing the accounting
for the Association's Fund, Reserve, and Endowment.
- Preparing or supervising the timely preparation of accurate
annual IRS forms 1099, 990, and other Federal, State, and local
government filings, including filing for the insurance office.
- Leading the annual independent audit process, preparing for the
audit, and acting as the liaison for the independent audit
team.
- Keeping detailed and organized records of all Association
contracts, leases, capital pledges, deeds, and other legal
documents.
- Managing the Association's employee credit card program by
ensuring users comply with rules, educating new users, and issuing
new cards..
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- More than 15 years of relevant accounting experience.
- Degree in a related field.
- CPA Certification is essential.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, with the ability to research,
interpret, and provide GAAP guidance.
- Proficient accounting skills with practical and technical
expertise in nonprofit and fund accounting, nonprofit to GAAP
conversion, and federal government contract accounting standards
(OMB).
- Solid understanding of government contracts and grant
accounting especially in relation to various social service
agencies of the Federal, State, and County governments.
- Experience in Contract Compliance structure, processes, and
systems.
- Significant experience in designing and implementing
user-friendly financial systems.
- Proficiency in MS Excel spreadsheets, NetSuite, Concur, and
Adaptive software preferred.
- Familiarity with New Market Tax Credits (NMTC) and other
alternate funding mechanisms.
