Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Staff
Systems Architect Engineerto join our team of qualified, diverse
individuals. This position will be located in San Diego, CA.
The Systems Architect will provide technical leadership and
direction across the Digital Manufacturing Technology (ManTech)
thrust across multiple sites. This position will also involve
managing project development through production transition,
providing mentorship to team members, and managing project goals,
objectives, schedules, and cost while adhering to company
policy.
As a member of the Advanced Manufacturing Technology development
team, you will define, develop, implement, and transition new
technology solutions to manufacturing to increase efficiency,
reduce cost, and improve quality. Manufacturing concept and process
solutions for production applications cover advanced technologies
including but not limited to composites fabrication, assembly,
automation, inspection, direct part manufacturing, LO technologies,
as well as digital capabilities. The role requires incorporation of
requirements into development plans and evaluation of performance
of processes and tools to verify their efficiency. In addition, you
will identify and initiate corrective action of problems and
deficiencies to ensure R&D contractual obligations (technical,
schedule, and cost) are met and product quality is maintained. In
this role, you will provide guidance regarding design concepts,
TRL/MRL maturity, and specification requirements to best utilize
resources and manufacturing techniques, and ensure processes and
procedures are in compliance with regulations. This role involves
interfacing with internal and external customers, program offices,
engineering disciplines, and executive management. In addition, the
role will require the ability to handle multiple projects
concurrently in a dynamic/fast-paced work environment. Budgeting
and Project Management skills will be utilized to properly scope
and execute assigned work and manage project efforts.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership/direction to ensure technology initiatives
and opportunities for process improvements are systematically
identified, pursued, and supported.
- Develop architectures and concepts for advanced digital
technologies with a focus on implementation within Northrop
Grumman
- Interact with customers (internal and external)
- Reach out and work with colleges, universities, government,
supplier as part of development and improvement projects.
- Provide leadership/direction to ensure technology initiatives
and opportunities for process improvements are systematically
identified, pursued, and supported.
- Introduce and develop new technologies for the manufacturing
floor.
- Lead projects consisting of cross functional teams of high
performing engineers developing advanced systems designs and
concepts.
- Provide technical leadership and oversight to achieve
efficient, effective, and innovative engineering solutions.
- Apply new technologies as well as common designs and products
enabling rapid development, prototyping and affordable solutions.

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology,
Engineering, Math) discipline with 12 years of experience in
systems and product development; OR Master's of Science degree in a
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 10
years of experience in systems and product development; OR PhD in a
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 9
years of experience in systems and product development.
- Must have an active Secret Clearance and have the ability to
obtain and maintain Special Program Access within a reasonable
period, as determined by the company to meet its business
needs.
- Ability to travel 10% of the time.
- Must have at minimum a current DoD 8570 IAT Level II
Certification (Security+CE) Preferred Qualifications:
- Have an Active, In-Scope, DOD Top Secret Security Clearance or
higher
- Secret Clearance Periodic Re-investigation within the last 5
years
- Special Access Program (SAP) Current
- Experience in hardware/software integration of manufacturing
systems
- Experience as Principal Investigator on government CRAD and/or
Internal Research and Development programs.
- Experience with production assembly/fabrication including
Digital Transformation, Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality, Systems
Integration, IIoT, RFID, and/or production manufacturing
operations.
- Working knowledge of classified information systems
infrastructure
- Experience working in a Research and Development
environment.
- Digital Manufacturing experience
- Demonstrated technical leadership skills, decisiveness, and
ability to make sound technical judgments with limited
information.
- Architecture, Design & Integration experience for engineering
systems and software
- Technical Writing capability
- Ability to use Model-based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and
concepts to define functions and develop functional and performance
requirements.
- Project / Program Management skills (proposal creation,
scheduling, budget tracking)
- Strong Familiarity with Process Development & Controls
- Ability to lead through, overcome and adapt to obstacles and
challenges.
- Ability to deal effectively with change and challenges and
helps others to do the same.
- Demonstrated technical leadership of programs and/or proposals
in a collaborative environment to propose, plan, estimate,
organize, and integrate Systems Engineering activities across
multiple engineering disciplines.
- Well-versed, skilled, and disciplined in system engineering
processes
- Extensive background in Secure Networks
- Working knowledge of Network Security Devices (e.g. firewall,
IDS, IPS) and IPSec/VPN implementations
- Working knowledge of Virtualization (e.g. VMware)
- Working knowledge of Certificate Authority, Public Key
Infrastructure (PKI), Certificate requirements for secure
communications, and Certificate Revocation
- Working knowledge of STIG/Hardening of Operating Systems,
including Red Hat and Windows
- Working knowledge of NIST 800-37 RMF artifacts such as SSP,
SCTM, PoA&M's, SAR, RAR, RAL, ConOps, ISA, etc.
- Working knowledge of Security Incident Event Monitoring and
IDS/IPS tools such as ACAS, ESS (HBSS), and Splunk on Linux RedHat
and Windows environments.
- DoD 8570 IAT-III/IAM-I Certification (CAP, GLSC, CISSP, CASP
CE)Salary Range: $165,000 - $247,600
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however,
Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining
base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the
position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and
current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to
base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual
contributions as well as allow employees to share in company
results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be
eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman
provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage,
life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays
